Amazing heart of a Father that wants to restore relationships

In 1 Samuel 26 we see a situation where David and 600 his men was fleeing before King Saul, who wanted to kill Him. David was doing his utmost not to create conflict or to retaliate even though he knew that he was anointed to the next king. On a previous occasion David had already spared King Saul’s life, where he had the opportunity to kill Saul, after which Saul repented but then again decided to hunt David. So this sad situation, Saul and his 3000 men were sleeping and waiting to engage the next day with David. Then David and Abishai, one of his right-hand men decided to sneak into the camp while all the men was sleeping and then in verse 12 it says:

12 So David took the spear and the jug of water by Saul’s head, and they got away; and no man saw or knew it or awoke. For they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen on them.   Then they left and went to a Hilltop far away from the camp and shouted so that Saul and his men awoke, again just proving to Saul that he could have killed him, but he did not because there was nothing evil in David’s heart. Then in verse 19 David says to Saul:   19 Now therefore, please, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant: If the Lord has stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering. But if it is the children of men, may they be cursed before the Lord, for they have driven me out this day from sharing in the inheritance of the Lord, saying, ‘Go, serve other gods.   What we see here in David is saying to King Saul, may whoever the one or the scheme of the enemy or whoever is the 3rd party in this situation, may that be exposed and dealt with, because that is causing me to lose out or miss out on what is rightfully my inheritance  in this relationship. And secondly it says go serve other God’s. My understanding many time that through broken relationships  and the offense, unforgiveness and bitterness that I carry in my heart it cause me to draw away from God and affect my intimacy with God.

The amazing thing that is written here is the second part of the verse 12 which says: “.For they were all asleep, because a deep sleep from the Lord had  fallen on them.  And what I see here is God’s amazing heart to see reconciliation and peace between David and Saul was so big, that He supernaturally caused all in the camp to fall into a deep sleep in order for David to create a situation where Saul could see that David had no evil in his heart and that reconciliation could happen.  And so many times we sit in a situation where there is no animosity towards somebody, or broken down relationships, where there is lots of pain and devastation, but all that God needs is one person to be the least and to deal with the offence in their heart so that there is no evil in their heart towards the other person, irrespective of who the guilty the other person is and the role that they have played in the situation,  or who has wronged who, but to be the least and humble ourselves and to say : “Lord please would you facilitate the process of reconciliation, so that restoration could come.”

If you harden your heart you are also in the wrong and God will not choose between 2 wrongs or side with the lesser of the 2 wrongs. As we yield to his instruction to repent and to forgive and release, it then facilitates the work of the Holy Spirit to intervene.

God so desires for truth peace and restoration to come.  In 1 Samuel 26:24-25 David said to Saul: 24 And indeed, as your life was valued much this day in my eyes, so let my life be valued much in the eyes of the Lord, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.”25 Then Saul said to David, “May you be blessed, my son David! You shall both do great things and also still prevail.” So we see here that Saul realize the wrong on his side, repent and bless David and stop pursuing him.  By acting in righteousness with a humble heart, it does not just affect the relationship with that person, but we also open the door for ourselves to walk in God’s blessing and favour on our lives.

So my prayer for us this day is that if this message ministers to you in and for a specific situation, would you first of all allow God to show you your own heart and that you would deal with what is in your own heart irrespective of the immense wrong that might be in the other persons heart like in the case of Saul, would you allow Him to deal with that and repent of whatever animosity and wrong has been in your own heart. And would you seek God’s face to restore relationship and see how God moves supernaturally on your behalf in order to bring healing in order to bring reconciliation.

May the Lord abundantly bless every one of these situation and relationships and may life flow out of that, not just for the two of you but also for the impact that God has through your lives.

Ready for the Storm

What do we do with the very specific, prophetic words of warnings that the Lord gives us that are meant to protect us.

I just want to share with you from my own heart experience the impact of Craig’s, Southern African visit during Aug 2016.  Previously I have always known that we desperately need to get out of debt and God has been very gracious with the down payments of the farm and everything else. But I also knew that there were other aspects I was not doing because I felt that is was something beyond my control.  The whole scripture of, “A good father leaves an inheritance for his children’s children”, was something that I realized I was not getting to. I was looking at my own inability in as far as making provision for my own children and grandchildren to have homes one day so that they won’t have to go into debt. Starting with my own children, who are all in full time ministry and obviously not in the position to buy property/homes. As a father it has always been my desire and regret that I have not been able to do things differently earlier in my life to position myself so that our children would be able to buy a house without having to go into debt and the same for our grandchildren one day.

With Craig’s visit there was a new awakening in my spirit of understanding of God’s grace, when I am obedient to what He asks me to do, and I am so grateful for the fact that the Lord seems to give me a second chance in saying “Leon would you trust Me with your finances, with your children and with the ministry as well. And what became very clear is that if we step out in faith in the natural and we are obedient to the Lord’s guidance in these matters, God would supernaturally come through for us. So I’ve got no doubt in my heart, that as I do what is possible, God will do the Impossible. Not just for putting in place provision for our children’s children someday, but also regarding the ministry, in how we position the ministry in such a way that when the world goes into an economic collapse or meltdown, that the ministry would not suffer through a lack of finances. So the question is also, how do we position ourselves in a way that we could continue to reach and train people even if there is no money available?

One very significant aspect that I missed out on was that I was always looking at me and my own family and are we safe and out of debt but we did not look beyond ourselves to our community and the bigger picture regarding the ministry of how can we also help the poor, and I really became aware that God had not just called us to survive and to be ok as a family and a ministry, even if we had sufficient finances to do all of the above said, but that God wants to use us as a channel of provision for other families that might be in a place of hardship and are not prepared and as fortunate as we might be.  And the question that I have is Lord how do I do that?  So there has been enormous challenges for me with what Craig submitted and shared and I really believe that it has been God’s grace for us and just a repeat of all the things that we have already been hearing over the last few years and much more, but with a much greater urgency because of the time we are living in, and the already changing economics. So the timing is critical at the moment, but I came away not with a despondency but rather with much greater courage knowing that we serve an amazing and faithful God and as I ask Him for wisdom, He will give me wisdom, as I ask Him for grace, whether it be debt or anything else, His grace would be sufficient for me, and that He will be there to help me out and give me the wisdom, discernment and understanding needed to see this through as I walk in obedience to His guidance.

So I really highly recommend that you do not let the message that was shared by Craig pass by, but that every one of you would really prayerfully say: “Lord as for me and my family, what do we do with the present economic situation… What do You want us to do to position ourselves? Not just for our own safety and protection but also to be there for our communities and for others as well.  What do You want to do in us but also through us?”

One of the biggest realizations I have had in all of these things, is that mostly, God is after our hearts. He wants to draw our hearts back to him where for a long time, for many of us, our hearts have been caught up in material and worldly things and stuff not that all things and stuff are always bad, but God’s desire is for our hearts to be turned back to Him and to what is really important. There are going to be incredible opportunities to see people coming to the Lord, the question is, will we be ready, will we be available to use these opportunities, or will we be so busy trying to survive as a family that we totally miss it.

I would like to propose that you prayerfully consider looking at the following steps:

  1. We have loaded the notes of Craig’s conference teaching on the FFI Africa Website,, even if you have been at one of the conferences, please be aware of the fact that due to the enormous time constraint, Craig had to push 8 hours of teaching into, some places, less than 2 hours. So you might not have fully received all the important info that you could have had, so please look at the different point in how to prepare yourself for the coming global economic crisis and download it for yourself.
  2. Please prayerfully consider all the recommendations Craig makes getting out of debt to the different jars, to really praying as a family, saying God, what do you want us to do in the current situation, even if you don’t have debt, what do you want us to do as a family in this coming season ahead to prepare.
  3. Thirdly, would you please pray and ask God, as an individual or as family, what He wants to do through you and how He would want to position yourself to be able help and reach out to your community.
  4. I would highly recommend that you would consider doing a Financial Foundations Seminar. Either present or run it in your community if you are a trained FFI Coordinator or authorized to do so, or request for a Seminar to be run for your community or town. And then as an outflow from the Seminar embark on doing the Jubilee Foundations Course which is a 16 week course which is a Course that could be run by anyone in a small group setup or even just as an individual. And then follow up with the G.O.O.D Plan series (Get Out Of Debt) DVD’s.   I really recommend that you make these available in and for your communities, to position people to be prepared for what is busy happening at the moment and for what is coming.
  1. Unfortunately, the only Conference recordings that was made available to us are the sessions done in Windhoek and can be watched or downloaded from our FFI Africa Website,, Please make an effort to watch these as well as the 3rd on that was recorded on the Sunday morning about why should God bless our Finances? You will also see the link to download the notes on the bottom of the page below the Video clips.
  2. I really want to reiterate, this is not just a different focus of how do we manage finances differently, how do we invest when the economy and markets are collapsing and still make money, but it’s about a season coming and God asking if you would be willing to respond in a way that you could position yourself in a way that God would not only bless you and your family but also in a way that you could be a channel of blessing to other and to your community. Where you could be available for other families that are in desperate situations, not just financially or food wise, but desperate to receive the Lord and therefore would you please pray and ask God as this is probably one of the most exciting times that most of us would live to experience or it could be one of scariest times we will ever be facing if we do not tap into God’s wisdom and grace and respond to it accordingly.

Again I want to say, that I have missed it previously but the Lord really did something in my spirit and I know that there in not a hopelessness but that God will make a way for me, as I seek His heart for me and my family and what He wants to do through us as we step up and do the natural, God will do the supernatural.

Thanks for the time that you have taken to read this email and feel free to contact me, either by email or by phone if we could support or help with anything.

Dear Lord Jesus,

I pray for every person reading this email, not for a spirit of fear, or panic but rather for a spirit of gratitude, that Lord you warn us not just to protect us but also in order to encourage us to position us, so that we could move in Your blessing for ourselves and for others in our community. And Lord I pray, that for each one of us, Father that we would seek Your face, that we would hear Your voice, and that we would be obedient to what You speak, with much courage and faith step out and trust you to come and do the impossible, so Father that we would be willing to submit to You our few loaves of Bread and Fishes and watch You do the miracle.  We trust You with that in Jesus Mighty Name.

Where will we be at the end of it?

Realignment with God’s Word in our Lives

Cross and Prayer

Reflecting back on the year past and looking at the amazing things God has done for us as a family and as a couple, we see  His immense goodness and faithfulness in His blessing on our lives.

Marietjie and I became so aware of amazing people he has honoured us  with, and given us the ability to get to know over the years, people like yourself. We honour God for that, and part of our prayer for you is that you would not lose courage when faced with difficulties;  when the Red Sea is in front of you, that you will not stop walking. When having to go back for the seventh time to check if the rain that He has promised is coming, that you will not lose courage, that you will not stop, that you will continue to walk on, as He has told you and hold on to His promise, that He has spoken over you.

When faced with an army much bigger than you can handle, that you will not question God’s faithfulness to you, His ability to come through for you and His desire to protect you and love you, and be there for you . When asked to do the impossible, when asked to feed the multitudes with just a little bit of provision that you have for yourself, may you not question God’s ability. God’s ability to provide. God’s ability to be there for you.

And now if there is one word that we have for you this year it is, and I don’t know if it will make sense (at first), it is  realignment.

Our prayer for you is, may God start a process this year, may you allow Him to start a process of realigning everything of who you are, with who He created you to be. May everything that He has put inside of you, come into alignment with His will, with His love, how He loves people, how He sees people. May your understanding come into alignment with God’s understanding, the way you think , the way you talk, the way you relate, the way you love, the way you care , the way you cry for what breaks God’s heart, the way you stand up in boldness and fierceness to protect the unprotected. May your whole life come in line with God’s life, with God’s plan for your life?

We pray much blessing over you as a family, as a Ministry and everything that God wants to do with you. May you enjoy the walk that He has desired for you, may you really (as part of the alignment) understand the incredible love and passion He has for you as His son or daughter .

Much love and blessing

May 2015 be a year of Blessing

as we see Families Restored to Walk in God’s Ancient Paths of Blessing

Family at the Cross

Our family’s purpose is to “become as a family and as people all that God wants us to be.”

What an amazing statement!!

Each year, we behave as though the next year will be a “happy” one, when all along, the reality is that you and I simply don’t know what 2015 holds for us.

But there is One who does. Because every day of your life was written down in His book before any of them as yet existed (Psalm 139:16). Whatever the present outlook for your 2015 might be, everything could change in an instant.

We don’t know what my 2015 holds for us.  We have plans of course, hopes and dreams, and yet only God knows. But this is what we do know. In our heart of hearts, our deepest desire is to draw closer to Jesus. To know Him more, experience His love more, be filled to overflowing by His Spirit … more and more.

At the end of the day, that’s what really matters, isn’t it? The one relationship that we will take with us into eternity. So, rather than wishing you a “Happy New Year!!” … allow us to speak this blessing over your life.

May 2015 be the year when your heart lights up with an indescribable desire to draw closer to Jesus. To know Him more, experience His love more, be filled to overflowing by His Spirit … more and more. May 2015 be the most extraordinary, blessed year that you have ever lived on this earth – whatever this world may throw at you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

We will be praying that over you and all of the other friends of Family Foundations International these coming weeks and months. And we are believing that God will hear our prayer.

Are you leaving behind tombstones or monuments?

Exodus 17:1-3 and 6-7 (NKJV)

Water from the Rock

17 Then all the congregation of the children of Israel set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, “Give us water, that we may drink.”

So Moses said to them, “Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?”

And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, “Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?”

… and the Lord said, “Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it that the people may drink.”

And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. So he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

Having read this scripture the other day, after having covered all the miracles and Godly interventions that took place over a few weeks prior to this incident, I caught myself judging the Israelites for their behaviour when some challenges faced them.  After having just experienced God’s amazing power through the 10 plagues in Egypt, His protection over them whilst wiping out all the firstborn of Egypt, walking through the red sea just in time to see their biggest enemy forever wiped out, God leading them with the fire column and the cloud etc., etc. and the next moment, when challenges come, questioning God’s faithfulness, His integrity to do what He said He would do, which included taking care of them and protecting them.  How could their memory of what He has done be so short lived and how, after all that, could they question God’s faithfulness or integrity or even motives or ability?

The Lord challenged me regarding my heart; is what I do so much different from what they did?  After His incredible faithfulness to us through all the years, His provision in different ways etc., when challenges come, why do worries creep in?  Why does a thought of “Lord, are you going to come through for us in this situation?” even enter our minds?

What I realised was that through our exciting but many times scary and challenging walk with God, He intended  that the road we are on should be full of monuments that, for all the generations to come, would be a reminder of the Lord’s faithfulness and goodness and miracles in moments of need.  Unfortunately, like in this situation, and even though God supplied water for them, that place would forever be marked with a negative connotation of, “God, are you really going to be who you say you are?”  It reminds me of a tombstone, which normally only reflects pain, sadness and loss for most people.  Our wrong responses rob our future generations of Godly building blocks, due to wrong examples set when it gets tough and a wrong image of Father God that we portrayed to them.  The sad thing, also, is that even though my attitude was toward breaking down God’s character in my understanding of who He is but, because of His loving heart, and His care for the people’s need, He nevertheless, sometimes provides.  Such is the case with the water and, because I don’t see the consequences for my bad attitude, my heart does not get exposed and I don’t change what is wrong on the inside of me.  We need to know that our attitude matters because it reflects what is in the heart!

Would you settle in your heart, who He is in your eyes, and would you trust Him enough to create monuments to His glory in the midst of your biggest challenges and fears.  May Psalm 23 become a reflection of your heart condition.

Much love and blessings,

Leon and Marietjie Hartwig
